I support the notion to shut down Teys. In this day and age it is not difficult to abide by modern practices to put your staff, livestock and surrounding population in a safe environment. Laziness and greed are usually the reasons for companies not fulfilling their duty to provide a safe environment. Time for Teys to either move into this century or close down. Melanie, Waterford

How fxc1@in dare you produce this website, do you know how many thousands of people work there, q fever is nothing it doesn’t do shit, u can get q fever from living on a farm with cows, so what should we shut down all cow farms and get rid of all cows.
If you don’t like teys well fuck off out of this area and go live in the city full of poluition with is more dangerous for your health like the swine flu is.
I hope teys sue ur ass and u better watch ur back if I see u

No I don’t want to shut down anything. But if its a danger and its kept a secret from the public who are in danger, it should be made public.
I have a right to live in a safe area, but is their duty of care to make their business safe from effecting people outside their property
Anyway, the facts that they cannot dispute are

      1. Q fever is a air borne bacterial infection. It causes flu-like symptoms such as a high temperature, muscle pain and headaches and is very dangerous; miss diagnosis is extremely common as it is often mistaken as the common flu.
In Australia Humans usually become infected by inhaling Cattle yard dust carried through the air by the wind, which can be spread up to 18 kilometers from the source.
People most at risk of getting Q fever are those whose occupation and environment brings them into close contact with livestock: Close contact can mean anything up to 18 kilometres depending on the wind.

      2. A letter from Queensland Health warn Q fever effects, can be felt up to 5 kilometres from Teys Bros Beenleigh.

      3. Teys Bros Beenleigh operational licence from the Queensland Government office of DERM dictates, Teys Bros Beenleigh must not effect anyone or anything beyond its boundaries.

In my opinion, the above points prove Teys Bros Beenleigh are in BREACH of their operational licence and operate in a dangerous and illegal manner. Queensland Governments department of DERM acknowledge their breach, the Queensland Health Department and the Logan City Council are aware of their breach and yet none have taken action to protect the public.

I have further information into DERM,s lack of interest in relation to the cattle trucks spilling bio waste on public roadways, why Teys insist on trucking cattle to the site rather than rail linked to the lack of tax payer subsidies form Queensland Rail and the lack of interest From the Alert and Logan news paper to these issues. Please contact me

I agree with A Davis, to have cattle trucks coming through surban suburbs it’s really very unsanitary.

DERM has put them on a compulsory compliance program for their contraventions – so there are obviously big issues there, this isn’t something just dreamed up by Mr Tombas. This concerns me as I live in Edens Landing with my partner and 2 children. Also, my partner developed pericarditis (inflammation of the heart lining) recently and he is only 23 and in perfect health (he’s slim, doesn’t smoke or drink etc), and the doctors at Logan Hospital said it was very rare for someone of his age and health to get it, and that it was caused by an “underlying unknown viral infection”. They said they wouldn’t bother testing to see what it was as their was no point. He was quite ill, was hospitalised and had to take a heap of time off work. I’ve wondered about what the underlying cause could have been – not sure if Qfever could have anything to do with it? I used to work with the Environmental Protection Agency as a compliance and investigations officer for years before I left work to have my kids – the secrecy doesn’t surprise me, and lets face it they RARELY prosecute and the compliance program Teys are currently under could be in effect for YEARS before things are rectified. They should provide us with more detail. Can’t we access the documents under Freedom of Information if they won’t provide them?

*sorry the doctors said it was an unknown underlying infection, they didn’t specify what kind

Everyone that works there gets vaccinated against Q-Fever (yes I know someone that did work there). Yes you can get q fever from breathing in the dust behind a truck travelling with OR WITHOUT a full load of cattle on the freeway if you’re stuck behind it. For those of you who wish to read up more about it and check your symptoms go to http://www.qfever.org/faq.php
That might enlighten a few of those out there who are slightly less…knowledgeable about it yet deem to think they are SARAH!

huh? I never said I was knowledgeable about q-fever? As I said above in my post, I said I’m not sure about it and put a question mark to signify that I don’t know! I never once said I knew much about it, because I don’t! That was the whole point of me commenting and being on here, I don’t know much about it and want to know more as we live close to Teys and my partner got very sick recently due to what the doctors said was an “unknown underlying infection”.

I have lived here 10 years and noticed the awful smell shortly after buying our house. I got in touch with environment dep. and they visited teys bros on numerous occasions on my behalf so it improved , then at times when it started again the department of environment wasn’t dealing with it anymore. I think it should be closed down as a risk to health to the community .

I have just brought a house in Beenleigh, this should have been disclosed to all people buying in the area, I have stumbled onto this site, trying to find out what the stench is that engulfs my house and the surrounding area, two weeks ago, I kicked my dog out for farting, after the smell did not go away after an hour, I let him back in, realizing that it was not him, I would not pay half the amount that I paid for this house or any other place around here, its like living in a fart bowl…… this is supposed to be a happy time buying a new home, my new home is now becoming a rental…WARNING WARNING WARNING !!!! TO ALL POTENTUAL BUYERS AROUND THE BEENLEIGH ABATTOIR …………DON’T.!!!!!….. THE STENCH!! IS OUT OF THIS WORLD…… now if that stench reaches my house, what diseases are floating around in that stench….

I live within a 2 km range of Teys Brothers Beenleigh and moved here 7 months ago. Since we have lived here, we have all been off colour with random fevers, sneezing and irritating cough that I didn’t have prior to moving here.

I smoke a few cigarettes a day and have never had this ridiculous sneezing and niggly cough whilst living on the Gold Coast, now we even have fevers on and off. Thank you for this blog because I had no idea why we had sudden strange symptoms of things and we can smell the Teys Brothers slaughtering, when it occurs too.

I have never lived in this area before, and always lived on the Gold Coast. Now I really believe every word you have written because it makes sense to us, that this information must be factual.

      Hi Marianne,
I would go to a doctor and explain the situation, explain where you live and ask for a Q Fever test. A GP may not recognize or even consider Q Fever and it’s symptoms, so you should as your GP to test for Q Fever, just to be on the safe side.
