In my opinion you are in danger according to EXPERT Doctors reports.
1. Logan City Council not to allow any NEW development within 500 meters of the Teys Boundary, due to the risk of catching Q- Fever.2. I have a letter by Queensland Health Brisbane Southside Public Health Unit warning that living within 1 kilometre of the abattoir places you in “HIGH RISK” of catching Q-Fever and can effect people within a 5 kilometer radius
3. We have reports allover the internet by doctors and experts in infectious diseases, that state that living within 5 kilometres is a great risk in the threat of catching Q-Fever
Now that’s a large variance in buffer area suggested by each of these expert bodies/specialists and to be fair, not enough study has been done on Q-Fever, even though it is far more dangerous that the Hendra Virus and other disease surrounding animals in commercial situations.
In my opinion, DERM who control industries like Teys Bros Beenleigh Abattoir must, for the sake of the unsuspecting public take action immediately and have Teys shut down until they can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that their operation will not harm the public.
Derm’s Enforcement Guidelines 2010, shows a clear and precise set of actions that should be taken in situations like this. Based on DERM’s letter to me, in regards to my DERM complaint, it is clear that they are aware of Teys Bros Beenleigh NON-compliance with their licence to operate business activities.
In my opinion, It is therefore up to DERM to take Teys Bros Beenleigh to task and shut down their operation until can produce a clean bill of health regarding the public living in the surrounding areas.
In my opinion, it becomes clearer, that at best, if we only rely on the letter to me personally from the Queensland Health Brisbane Southside Public Health Unit , all the hard working people who have bought land and houses in new residential estates like the Divine “Alberi Park” Development, Stockland’s “Vale” Residential Development and Lend Lease’s “Woodlands” Residential Estate , embarking on a new life have all been placed in harms way by the operation at Teys and should rethink relocating their families into this area.
To the North of Teys, we have Edens landing; a well-established suburb, who have been exposed to the danger of Teys Bros Beenleigh but were uninformed. For years these residents could have felt the effects of diseases from Teys Bros Beenleigh and should seek medical advice.
To the east of Teys Bros Beenleigh lies Beenleigh, full of industries, businesses and homes, all sitting in the firing line, unsuspecting that they are all in high risk of some hidden disease. Again for years all these people going about their daily lives not knowing that they are being exposed to something very dangerous or as the experts put it “at High Risk”, and should all seek medical advise.
My personal opinion is that there are more public reports referring to the 18+ kilometer range danger zone, so it is important that potential for Q-Fever should be remembered whenever you visit the doctor for issues and problems with your health.
