In my opinion, Teys Bros Beenleigh Abattoir has lingered behind the times; and in doing so put everyone living and working within 1 kilometer, 5 kilometers or up to 18 kilometers at risk of health issues, depending on which report you hang your hat on..
One of the largest companies in Queensland and Australia and partnered with one of the largest international food companies of the world, Cargill, Teys Bros Beenleigh they have put greed and money before the health of their neighbours.
In my opinion, They knowingly operate outside their “Licence to Operate” with little care for the general public. They knowingly operate procedures that are “HIGH RISK” of danger of spreading infectious diseases – like “Q-Fever.”
But is it their fault? In my opinion – yes and no.
Yes .. because although they have been there since the 1980’s in its current format, In my opinion, they have failed to keep up to date with modern practices that other businesses in their class have done.
In my opinion,They follow modern practices inside the plant and safety for their workers, but they are stuck in the 1980’s when it comes to their cattle yards and out-door practices, putting the surrounding public in harms way and in high risk of contracting Q-Fever.
In my opinion, Developers like Devine, Stockland and Lend Lease knowingly continue to market adjoining properties in the high risk areas without regard to the health of those families purchasing and moving into their residential estates.
Q-Fever can attack pets in the back yard, children playing in the parks and parents working to pay off mortgages.
But it goes even further, In my opinion, Cattle Road Trains arrive several times a week, semi trailers full with cattle. And these cattle, whilst on the long road trip from the country, do their business on the floor of the semi trailers, which leak and spill onto the road. Residents have filmed and photographed brown stains along Logan River Road. These stains are the urine and excrement leaking through the floor onto the road.

This situation is a similar scenario to a new housing estate being built under the flightpath of an airport thats existed for decades; with the new residents complaining about aircraft noise. The abattoir was there first, and is partly responsible for the growth of Beenleigh. Bring it up to 21st century health standards by all means. But don’t whinge about something that was there before it ringed by a residential area. What next; an estate at Jacobs Well, then have residents complain about the sea air?
I agree with you but therein lays the problem, Holmview is no longer in the sticks. It is now inner city Beenleigh suburb with enormous residential growth. The health department in their report say its not just the surrounding areas but also the cattle trains that bring in the cattle, that are issues.
They may have been there first but they wont be there long, sooner or later they will go, but the health risk is too high to ignore
1. Q fever is a air borne bacterial infection. It causes flu-like symptoms such as a high temperature, muscle pain and headaches and is very dangerous; miss diagnosis is extremely common as it is often mistaken as the common flu.
In Australia Humans usually become infected by inhaling Cattle yard dust carried through the air by the wind, which can be spread up to 18 kilometers from the source.
People most at risk of getting Q fever are those whose occupation and environment brings them into close contact with livestock: Close contact can mean anything up to 18 kilometres depending on the wind.
2. A letter from Queensland Health warn Q fever effects, can be felt up to 5 kilometres from Teys Bros Beenleigh.
3. Teys Bros Beenleigh operational licence from the Queensland Government office of DERM dictates, Teys Bros Beenleigh must not effect anyone or anything beyond its boundaries.
In my opinion, the above points prove Teys Bros Beenleigh are in BREACH of their operational licence and operate in a dangerous and illegal manner. Queensland Governments department of DERM acknowledge their breach, the Queensland Health Department and the Logan City Council are aware of their breach and yet none have taken action to protect the public.
Are you kidding us? Why did developers and the Council approved developments in the first place? The answer is greed! Just like the owners of this website, what are you trying to get out of this, be honest and up front with people and tell us!
This has nothing to do with developers, it has to do with Teys operating outside the Law. Teys are continually in breach of their operational licence. They do as they please without regard to the public. They have grown so big that they think they are above the law. Browse the site read the evidence and make a educated judgement
It looks like this site is run by a greedy developer that didn’t do his research well enough before buying. Teys were there long before him and will be long after he goes broke. If there is the slightest truth to anything he says here, the Council did the right thing by rejecting his application. He should sell the land off as a farm and move on……..
Greedy developer is such a easy label, I bet you bought your place off a greedy developer, I bet you shop at a place that a greedy developer created. The facts are on the site, if you take time to browse the site and read the evidence you will understand that the only greedy people ate Teys. They operate in breach of their licence and have done so for many years. No one cares because they are big and powerful. Logan City council bow down to their demands. If you operated an illegal business how long do you think you would last. Read the evidence, browse the site and make a educated decission
I keep seeing cow droppings all over the road around the Abattoir entrance. I never though twice about it until learning about q fever.
Hey Burt – I know what you mean… I have often seen cattle trucks leaving the yards and driving up the road spilling brown fluid all the way up Logan River Road. The road is almost stained with it at times. I always thought it was gross, they must rinse out all the collective poop from the truck. Now I know its dangerous as well.
I couldn’t give 2 Sh&*^s about greedy developer when wife and children’s health is involved. I want to know whether the owner of this website is lying and producing fake Queensland health articles or has my government put my family at risk. Simple
Simple is right, nothing on this website is falsified.
All documents are freely available in the Qld Court system.
Teys, The Logan City Council, DERM and the Qld Health Department have kept this a secret for big business.
They have put your families health at risk, they have put my families health at risk!
The facts are

Rose,
I love how people go to all this trouble of creating websites, writing blogs etc & then act under false names! eg By Concerned Citizen
Teys employs 100’s of locals & is an institution the locals should be proud of & promoting.
I have a feeling people running this negative campaign are the ones with real hidden agendas!
Dear Rose, if you browse the site and read the evidence you will see that I have put up my name and why I am doing this.
This Q Fever issue has been a closely guarded secret by Teys and no one told me when I bought a house in the area.
Teys, Logan City Council and the Qld Health have know about this for years and have kept it under wraps.
But the facts are
1. Q fever is a air borne bacterial infection. It causes flu-like symptoms such as a high temperature, muscle pain and headaches and is very dangerous; miss diagnosis is extremely common as it is often mistaken as the common flu.

I have a quick question. Do you have an issue with the cattle kept on the Beenleigh SHS grounds? They are kept in the same conditions as the cows in Teys Bros, in the heart of Beenleigh & Eagleby. In fact, it is more built up than the area around Teys is currently. They also have sheep and goats, which also carry the virus, so isn’t that triple the danger? Is that your next course of action, or doesn’t it matter because you don’t own land directly opposite it?
Laura, again a few cattle grazing in a field is different than thousands of cattle every day been trucked in and moved into slaughter.
I have nothing against cattle, I do however have a problem with Teys Beenleigh and their out dated cattle yards that are a cesspool of Disease!
Oh, and the cattle on Belivah Road, in Bahrs Scrub. That’s opposite a new housing estate too, with just as little protection. If your concern was real about the Q Fever virus, wouldn’t you be targeting all the cattle kept in the area, instead of just one abbotoir?
There is a difference in a few cattle grazing and thousands been trucked in on a daily basis.
I have nothing against cattle, I do however have a problem with Teys Beenleigh and their out dated cattle yards that are a cesspool of Disease!
How can you compare a few cattle to a Abattoir who slaughter 50,000 per year Laura?
I thought they were moving Teys out to Toowoomba in the future and putting in a Westfield in later on down thr track. I mean evetually it will have to go, you can’t have a livestock Abattoir 30 mins from Brisbane especially as Brisbane developes and explands towards the coast.
You can get Q fever just following a cattle truck
